Crazy Days

I know it's August, I know it's supposed to be hot but Good Gawd almighty does it have to be so hot that I blister my hand when I touch the steering wheel??? I'm still scratching my head trying to decide why I decided to invest my 401k in the meat market when during the hot months all I want to eat are tomato sandwiches, Silver Queen corn and watermelon. I love tomato sandwiches but I am particular about the bread..I know big shock. The bread has to be white, VERY fresh and I use a round cookie cutter to cut the center out of the bread so it just fits the tomato slice. I lay the tomato slices on paper towels so they aren't so drippy and while the tomato is becoming "non-drippy" I put a smear of Mayonnaise on both pieces of bread. It has to be Mayonnaise (Duke's or Hellman's but I like Hellman's the best) not Miracle Whip and if I have to explain the difference then you obviously do not live in the South. After I have lightly salted the tomato slices I put my sandwich together and honey...slice a hunk of watermelon, butter an ear of corn and you got yourself a goood summer supper.

Yep, wet or dry you can burn yourself on those steering wheels and I agree....it's too darn hot!
Never had a tomato sandwich but you sure make it sound good.....

Oh but that tomato sandwich needs about three slices of bacon on it. Of course yours is a little healthier. I just picked two red tomatoes yesterday, guess I know what I will have for lunch now.

OH MAN...I was trying very hard not to think of the bacon part! Of course the bacon has to be Daily's, hardwood smoked, thick slice.

I like the part about cutting the bread with a cookie cutter, but you did forget the smokey bacon, and the lettuce.
But then... wouldn't you have to make the bacon and lettuce round too??.lol..
We've had so many tomato sandwiches around here that my husband gets this look, like not another tomato sandwich look everytime I whip out the bread, Duke's, yep Duke's mayo and another tomato. In a couple of months we will wish we had a good ole fresh mater.

I hate to admit this but I too am almost tired of tomato sandwiches and keep telling myself to get over it because by February I will be dreaming of a fresh 'mater! Did you see the recipe for the baked Roma tomato's on Pioneer Woman's site? I plan to make a batch of those sometime this week.

Although I am from the South, I now live in the North...just yesterday evening a waitress said, "You know I remember you, from being here before, it is the way you say "di-ut coke, please"...hhmmfff!

I am growing me some 'maters, and they are big and green, but look out sister when they turn red, I'll have me a 'mater sandwich fo' sure!
